Meet our Staff
Joanne Luyben
Director / Teacher
Mrs. Joanne Luyben's journey at Lakewood Village began as a parent in 1994 when her son attended preschool here. She is in her 20th year as a member of our teaching team. Mrs. Luyben is dedicated to making sure her students love school while preparing them for the next steps in their education. She also loves seeing the growth our young ones make throughout their preschool experience. In addition to planning a fun year for her students, she is looking forward to her new role as director. Mrs. Luyben loves being a wife, mom and nana. She enjoys baking, walking, live music, and gardening. Her favorite thing to do is spend time laughing with her friends and family and her competitive side shines through on family game night!
Mimi Singh Teacher Room 1
Mrs. Mimi Singh's career at LVCCNS began when her oldest son started preschool, though she didn't know at the time she would be teaching here! Prior to working at Lakewood Village she taught PreK-2nd grade from 2003-2014. She's always had a passion for teaching not only kids, but adults as well in various subjects: Math, Spanish, English, Music, Martial Arts & Baseball. She and her husband Ron have been married for 9 yrs and have 2 boys: Alex & Jackson. When she's not teaching she enjoys spending time with her family, going to the beach, and swimming. Fun fact: She is a certified 4th degree Black belt Martial Arts Instructor!
Diana Smith Teacher Room 3
Mrs. Diana Smith joined our team starting as a substitute teacher and has over 14 years experience teaching little ones. She has been happily married to her husband Jon for almost 9 years and has 2 daughters Brooklyn and Mackenzie that both attended Lakewood Village. When Mrs. Smith is not at the preschool, she loves to spend time with her family. She enjoys anything outdoors, especially the beach and the river in the summer months. She is truly looking forward to meeting all the kiddos and their families this year.
Carolyn Shipley Teacher Room 4
Mrs. Carolyn Shipley has been a part of the LVCCNS community since 2001. She started as a parent and sent her two youngest children through the program. She became part of the staff in 2011 as an Aide and became a teacher in January 2021. She thoroughly enjoys watching her students grow, laugh, and learn in Room 4! She is married for 32 years to her college sweetheart, jay, and they have 3 grown children. Carolyn enjoys riding her Peloton, going to music and comedy concerts, and finds solace in gardening and reading.
Katie House Teacher Room 5
Mrs. Katie House has been working with children for 18 years. She has been married 15 years and has two elementary aged children that both attended Lakewood Village and loved it. When she's not at work, Mrs. House enjoys reading, camping, and hanging out with her family.
Hannah Massey Teacher Room 6
Mrs. Hannah Massey has been a part of Lakewood Village Nursery School since 1996 when she started her first year of preschool! Both Mrs. Massey and her two older brothers attended preschool here! Mrs. Massey adores working at LVCCNS and loves providing a hands-on experience with her students and watching them evolve. She started her position here as an Aide in 2014 and worked her way up as a teacher. When she’s not helping mold the minds of the future, she enjoys traveling around the world with her husband Ian, hanging out with her Corgi Penny, and spending time with family and friends.
Jeannie O’Flaherty Assistant Director
Mrs. Jeannie O'Flaherty became a part of the LVCCNS community in 1998, when her son was a student at the school. After 25 years in the classroom she has moved into the office as Assistant Director. She is excited for this new challenge and the opportunity to work to keep our preschool the best Long Beach has to offer. She has been married to her husband for 38 years and is the proud mom of two grown children, Shannon and Ryan. She adores her two granddogs, Molly & Murphy. In her free time she enjoys reading, walking, going to the beach and spending time with her family and friends.
Kim Black Substitute
Miss Kim Black’s journey at Lakewood Village Nursery School started 29 years ago when her oldest son Joe attended school. Her middle son Nick and youngest daughter Hannah (Mrs. Massey) shortly followed. Miss Kim met her sweetheart at Millikan high school 35 years ago. She enjoys being a part of the community and seeing the kids smiling faces each morning. When she’s not at work she enjoys traveling, spending time at her little cabin in Lake Arrowhead and being with her family and grandson in her newly built beach home.
Sara Loiser - Aide
Previous to having her kids Miss Sara was a Pre-K teacher for 12 years.
Being involved with christian education has been one of her biggest blessings.
Watching little ones love Jesus is truly such a joy.
Miss Sara spends the rest of her time being a wife and mom, attending her kids dance competitions, teaching Sunday school, reading, and watching True Crime TV shows!

Heather McGee - Aide
Miss Heather started at Lakewood Village Nursery School in 2020 as a substitute teacher and then came on as an aide. She has over 10 years of experience working with children. When she is not working, Miss Heather loves spending time with her husband Sean and 2 year old son Barrett. They love going camping, trips to Disneyland and hanging out with friends and family.
